Very interesting. Government agents are still barely even trained enough in information security to track down many of these virus and worm authors. It takes a lot of digging just to find someone, script-kiddies included, that launched a DoS attack against a famous site.
If you're talking about J. Random Special Agent, you're right. If you're talking about some of our infowarfare teams or specialists, whom I assume walk the halls of No Such Agency in Columbia or the Company in McLean, I suspect you're VERY wrong. . .
We are collectively having a hard enough time keeping our own home connections and company infrastructures safe. It is very doubtful that a military strike against an actual digital entity could take place.
Tell that to the Iraqis in 1991. We already did it then.
Of course, assumptions are always made, anybody can push the button, so to speak. The only thing that's sure about the future is uncertainty. A military strike could be pitted against one lone cracker, a group of crackers, etc.
Indeed. A GBU-24 down the chimney of the particular J.Random Hacker who's been a particular pain to $foo is perhaps the ultimate in Denial of Service Attacks. . . --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Forum Systems PRESIDIO: PGP / XML GATEWAY APPLIANCE The Presidio integrates PGP data encryption and XML Web Services security to simplify the management and deployment of PGP and reduce overall PGP costs by up to 80%.
