In addition to whatever filtering/blocking tool you use, you can consider KnujOn.com's approach to reporting spam. 
Simply slowing the spam flow to the desktop does not stop spam/virus production. Reporting it to the right place will 
slow or stop spam production, so that less shows up at your door.
