Well if I was testing an environment I would use nessus first to check whatever I can with it (see nessus here: http://dir.rct.co.il/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=22&mode=&order= 0&thold=0 ) but you can also use nmap to port scan in various ways the environment there are other programs but they are service specific for the most part, I would also use httrack ( see httrack here http://dir.rct.co.il/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=20&mode=&order= 0&thold=0 ) to send web traffic to the web site. there are also tools to test other services I would gladly help just tell me what you need.
Well, i will use ftp, time, mail, dns and web server in my test environmet. Instead of using a tool for each it may be nicer to use a program that will generate a traffic for all. So what i want is to generate a network traffic and maybe increase the traffic and see the firewall resistance, or test the rules by checking which packages passed which dont. And if possible to create some pie charts or graphs. I saw some traffic generators on the net. Some are working on win machines, my test lab is composed of Debian machines so i prefer an opens source solution. I am seraching now the open source traffic generators but some advice my help.
