Wipe is your friend: http://wipe.sourceforge.net/From the site: "Wipe uses /dev/urandom, or if unavailable, /dev/random, as a source for entropy. The Mersenne Twister PRNG is used for speed."
There are also a couple of links to other articles about safe file deletion on the web site.
