/dev/ttyd crashes SunOS?

On the assumption that this is more than a local problem... System: Sun 4/300 running SunOS 4.1.3_U1 with serial console on ttya. System is original GENERIC kernel - nothing modloaded, clean as a whistle. Put a serial terminal on ttyd and enable it. Method 1: Login as root on ttyd. *THUD* Method 2: Type anything on ttyd.
