Have you installed patch 101621-02. This is the SunOS 4.1.3_U1 Jumbo tty patch.

We were having a similar problem with a 4/330 with a laser printer attached to
/dev/ttyd. Installing this patch has completely fixed the problem.

BTW, this is one of Sun's "recommended" patches. I would suggest installing
these patches as there are some security related patches here.
