Dropping YP: DBM lookups on /etc/passwd and shadowing too?

We are considering dropping YP.  I need a package that will allow us
to perform DBM lookups on /etc/passwd, with shadow passwords enabled.
Of course, changing passwords on all hosts in our domain is desirable.
I assume someone has written something like this already...
