maybe I am missing something but neither my NE2000 based pcmcia card nor
my wireless card (pcmcia) appear in ifconfig at all whether in promisc
or not. This is on 2.4.18 with frees/Wan patched in.

/sbin/ip link ls shows all the IF's ok (and their state)
