From experience I have one piece of advice that might be valuable.  
When you are looking for top technical guys and you go and interview 20 
odd people it can be tempting to say

"Well none of them are spectacular but if I had to choose I'd pick guy 
D".

It's so exhausting going through interview hell all those times it can 
be very easy to just pick the best you've seen.

If none of them are spectacular don't settle. It's worth the effort to 
go out and look again. The damage you can cause to a good team with a 
not-quite-good-enough guy is more than the extra pressure of running at 
110% for a couple of weeks while you keep looking.

Whenever I have held out for better they have always turned up, I 
recommend sticking to your guns (And your standards).
