Potential credit card data breach at Alico Japan
Friday 24 July 2009 | 12:36 PM CET

The Japanese arm of diversified international insurance company Alico
(American Life Insurance Company) may have been the victim of a data
breach, Yahoo reports.

According to the same source, the credit card details of around 110,000
Alico customers may have been exposed, with over 1,000 of them being hit
with fraudulent purchases as a result. According to Yahoo, Alico claims
information regarding the breach first came one week ago, when credit card
companies were alerted as to the illegal use of Alico credit cardholders
details in buying appliances online. Alico has not yet offered an exact
estimate on the circumstances of the alleged breach or its extent.
