If VPN is not an option: Windows Remote Desktop allow an encrypted connection. The new version 6.1 (as well as the version 6.0) supports for Transport Layer Security<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_Layer_Security> (TLS) 1.0 on both server and client ends (set as default).
