An IDS is not the right tool for spam control, but "bringing an end" to the nuisance is not very likely. A spammer from North Carolina was recently convicted and sentenced to 9 years in prison. During the trial it was revealed that he was making $750,000 a *month*. He sent over 1 million emails per day. Please share your knowledge, snort rules, bpf's anything to help bring and end to this nuisance
At a cost of $21.95/month and a gross income of over $8 million/year, you're never going to stop spam. There's too many unprincipled people willing to take advantage of their fellow man and dazzled by the prospect of ill-gotten gains.
