No, it's a tricky subject.  But I think too many people are ready to
dismiss them as too dangerous, even though they consider
vendor-initiated security updates as perfectly acceptable.  IMHO, the
trade-offs are similar.

Vendor initiated patches are never put automatically put on production
Servers without testing them out. Anything automatic is acceptable iff
It does not break anything. :)
