I can understand weirdities with more exotic setups, but our lab rats
are pretty much your standard issue XPee Pro SP2 with nothing changed on
them. I've never seen chunks fly so far. Serious wall and ceiling
decorating out of that build. And still trying to figure out why the
number on it was KB912919 which didn't line up with the KB on their
site. If it WAS malware, it was a dud.

M$ has a user base of millions with the dependant apps prolly in the
same range, even if it only breaks 1 out of 20 postscript network
drivers, that 5 fortune 100 companies that are out of service at a minimum

The Listons of the world might say "See, what took you so long!", try
out these interim patches, and then immediately have their answer.
People are asking for it, and I'm glad, for one that MS has the
restraint not to release such code upon the general public.

Ja

After all, if Microsoft released one patch like that to RTM, I think we
can all agree on *EXACTLY* what that would do to the uptake rates of
future patches, possibly for years to follow.

ja, ja, while sysadmins were fragging their (user base or test
environment, depending on funding/smarts) stuff the Hacker McNasty's of
the world (to coin a phrase) would be looking at source to to develop a
rebuttal to the cure. Open Source needs, well source. If you want
feedback you would sure get it this way, harmful and helpful. Anyones
guess which would win out in the end.

Darwinistic Socialism is way better: Make an idiot, and we will grind
