Michelangelo Fiasco: a Historical Timeline

We were, in 1992, a) completely media unsavvy, and b) a victim of our own
success. There were many examples of huge numbers of Michelangelo infections
being caught and disinfected in the weeks leading up to March 6. We should have
been prepared, on the day, with the stories of how many computers we saved.

At the time, I was surrounded by Macs at work, and at home I ran a
BBS. I ran that board for ten years, scanned every file that ever
came in, and never found a single virus. Viruses were always S.E.P.
(Someone Else's Problem) and until I changed jobs in 1995 I never
realized what a shithole "Wintel" IT departments could be.

Those were simpler days... we laughed at people who said they got a
virus from an email.

Good Times. :-)

Still, the hype around Blackworm is too much to take seriously.
