"Under state law, Jean could be jailed for up to two years if tried and convicted of taking the tape public, provided she knew it was intentionally recorded without the permission of state police." That seems absurd. Were California state police asked before the King tape went public? Everyone was extraordinarily reasonable during the whole arrest, as shown in the video. Why should the police have a problem?
In certain situations (not this one), it may be the case that the police don't want to disclose the tactics they use to make arrests (for example in hostage situations). Perhaps they feel that if they don't attempt to uniformly exercise the restrictions that it will send the message that it is okay? _______________________________________________ Fun and Misc security discussion for OT posts. https://linuxbox.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/funsec Note: funsec is a public and open mailing list.
