Willy Wonka never figured out how to sell anybody a second Ever-Lasting Gobstopper.

There's a lot of companies that will stand to lose billions of dollars of
revenue stream if the right solution/technology ever actually deploys.

And if they don't lose billions in revenue stream, it's not the right answer....
 
That's complete cobblers. 

If you currently have zero market share, then there's no reason why you 
shouldn't sell an Ever-Lasting Gobstopper, even if you won't be able to 
sell a second one.

Sure, that's tough on Symantec/NAI/Sophos/etc, but why should you care? 
You go right ahead and develop it, and sell it.
