Via UPI. [snip] Caribbean island nations have signed a deal with the United States to provide data on people from their coutnries travelling to America. On Oct. 26, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Prime Minister Patrick Manning of Trinidad and Tobago on behalf of the Caribbean Community, Caricom, signed a memo of understanding. The Jamaican Observer reported Nov. 5 that the memorandum, which was initialed in Port of Spain, requires the 15 Caricom member states to provide advanced data on passengers traveling to the United States. Concerns have been raised by a number of Caricom analysts about the possible effects of the memorandum of understanding on civil liberties.
