I wonder if people who have had background checks in order to buy guns

Invasive how? It seems that they've probably tracked international
travel for a very long time (your passport) and they've simply added a
few items (or, more likely, linked them) and scored  the total. Reads
like a non-issue issue, but the EFF will certainly wring it for all
its media worth.
