This conclusion leaves out an important part of the equation: purpose.

If your purpose for changing your fingerprints is to remain undetected
as your previous, on-file persona at the local pub, it should work.
When your prints are scanned you're simply a new customer. On the
other hand, if you are arrested for a crime then the police will
certainly go to great lengths to find out who you are and what your
history is.
