That the one?

Well, that is still used, but I think the most common line these days
is "Install this codec and improve download speeds and sound/video
quality of all downloaded music/video". It is abject nonense if you
have the vaguest idea of how digitial music/video works, but of course,
that immediately rules out about 97.3% of computer users having a
chance of noting its bogosity...

For example, current sites pushing this kind of crap say things like:

<name> is a multimedia compressor/ decompressor which registers into
the Windows collection of multimedia drivers and integrates with any
application using Direct Show and Microsoft Video for Windows.
<2nd_name -- think folk would be suspicious, but...> will highly
increase quality of video files you play.

<name> enhances your music listening experience by improving the
sound quality of video files sound, MP3, internet radio, Windows
Media and other music files. Renew stereo depth, add 3D surround
sound, restore sound clarity, boost your audio levels, and produce
   deep, rich bass sounds.

o Gives up to 40% better quality and provides less file size
o Adds file playback support option to all the popular players
o Installation requires no special knowledge of video codecs
