Don't need to pay for the oil if you can just take it: the reason the
Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor was to remove the US Navy's ability to
interdict their expropriation of oil and other mineral assets from
Oceania and IndoChina.

Deep water navies have been the key to global domination since the
Renaissance. We have the only one in the world at this point.
