I think you have too much faith in common sense. I still get e-mail notifications of e-mail outages at work. I'm not sure I expect more from my bank.
No, I have no faith in common sense. Not three weeks ago I got notifications, by email, from Amex, that my Amex account hadn't yet been paid. (In fact, it had, and when that finally got through to them, they sent me email about that, too.) They sent my statement due total, the date of the statement (making all future statement dates predictable) and the last five digits of my account in plain text. However, I'd just as soon advise people to ignore email warnings from the banks. Much less likely that they'll ignore an important message if they don't respond than that they'll get caught in a phishing net if they do. ====================== (quote inserted randomly by Pegasus Mailer) rslade () vcn bc ca slade () victoria tc ca rslade () computercrime org There were two 'Reigns of Terror', if we could but remember and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passions, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon a thousand persons, the other upon a hundred million; but our shudders are all for the horrors of the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty and heartbreak? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief terror that we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror -- that unspeakable bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves. - Mark Twain victoria.tc.ca/techrev/rms.htm blog.isc2.org/isc2_blog/slade/index.html http://blogs.securiteam.com/index.php/archives/author/p1/ http://twitter.com/NoticeBored http://twitter.com/rslade _______________________________________________ Fun and Misc security discussion for OT posts. https://linuxbox.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/funsec Note: funsec is a public and open mailing list.
