Until naming dispute with Greece is resolved ,  'Поранешна Југословенска Република Македонија'
is used as provisional reference by the UN and several other countries.
Using 'Makedonija' or 'Македонија' would be fine, though, from the technical standpoint.
Politically, OTOH, it would be controversial, which is precisely why they would do it (extreme stubborness is one of 
the traits
that pretty much all nations in Eastern Europe share).
Isn't living on the Balkans fun :) ?
