More, the response of the ignorant -- such a response is MUCH more
common AND widespread than from within the halls of government.

Just look at the "official" responses from Toyota of late to see how
misplaced your corny "governemnt is the problem" paranoia really is

[Tomas L. Byrnes]

The problem with government is that the ignorant get the power to do
much more than throw poo, and further, that it appears to attract, and
more importantly retain and promote, a disproportionate percentage of
ignorant people.

At least in the private sector the limits on the poo throwing as a
response tend to be pretty swift, as customers leave in droves. The
government's response is often to actually shoot (or at least
incarcerate, which if you avoid you get shot) the messenger.

Since we're on the car company analogy: Compare Toyota's response to
those of British Leyland or Renault to the quality issues with their
cars when they were government owned.

For that matter, compare Toyota's response to Ford's with the ECU
issues, Pinto, or Explorer tires.

Or, if you want to look at our industry, how Seagate is handling the
widespread failures of Barracuda 7200.11 drives right now (deny, cover
up, say RAID x is unsupported).

Toyota made some mistakes, but they've owned up to them in a pretty
short time, and are making good on them. It took over a decade for Ford
to fix the ECU issue, hundreds of deaths for the Firestone tire recalls,
and the catalog of abominations on 4 wheels produced by British Leyland
without nary a fix would take many screens

Your corny and antiquated trust in your "betters", and the belief that
government and politics attract only the best and brightest, as opposed
to a lot of the lazy and corrupt, is what is completely misplaced.
