Also, if you actually *read* that Wikipedia article, it appears that it was
a
near-total disaster on the Israeli side, and they only got lucky and one
soldier actually got it right.

Well, it seems to me your (Keith Olbermann's) point was that given that all
other defense lines failed, a "highschool dropout" (read: the TSA guy on the
spot) can't do anything. This is exactly the case in the night of the
gliders - all defense lines failed - the real guard actually ran away. But a
single soldier with the sense to do something managed to stop the enemy.
And the TSA being incompetent/inept/etc. now doesn't mean they have to be,
or that there's no place for an organization such as the TSA in general.

Now, compare the training level of the average Israeli soldier, and the
average
TSA employee, and ask if we *really* want to rely on the TSA doing even as
well
as than the poor showing the Israelis did that night...

Well, I don't know what training a TSA employee undergoes. An Israeli
soldier who is responsible for a warehouse usually goes through one month of
training at the start of his service, and not much else. Most non fighters
are generally considered "inept" when it comes to using their weapons, if
they have them. I believe that a soldier who is willing to use his weapon
when he needs to can do much more than is generally expected.

Cheers,
Imri
