I would also suggest gentoo. I used to be a redhat man, but I hated the
whole 47 cd's it took to download. with gentoo you pick what gets
installed and it worries about dependancies.  However you will need a
network connection during the install. or another computer to fetch all
the 'distfiles' from the web.
