Wireless wars: Pentagon digs in The U.S. military stands between wireless carriers and the spectrum they covet. In two weeks, several government agencies are scheduled to issue a final report outlining new spectrum to be freed for so-called 3G wireless services. However, the U.S. armed forces are occupying the center of the band that's been identified by the World Radio Conference (WRC) as one to be used worldwide for 3G and that's viewed by wireless carriers--such as Verizon Wireless, Sprint PCS, Cingular and AT&T Wireless--as the beachfront property on the radiomagnetic map.
