The older palms have a modem that you can hook to the bottom to connect to the internet and establish a ppp connection. The newer palm vii is wireless and uses palm.net as its network It uses webcliping to do everything and does not have a direct connection to the internet. Its kinda of the principle of mail2web where you can get your email but from a web interface. Everything is done by special programs called web clipping programs which can be downloaded at palm.net or palm.com I think the only port it lets you use is port 80 but i really dont know. even 3rd party mail clients use webclipping through port 80 so this is my guess. kinda of pointless. Thats why I returned mine. Its perfect for palm though.. the thing only gets 9600 bps and your never always connected. Just connected to download data from a webclipping app. which is usually no more than 4-10k. and at $44.95 a month. It just wasnt worth it. I thought I could telnet into my machine but you cant do that and it wont run java or anything so java telnet clients on webpages wont work. Heck i even had to download a 3rd party webbrowser just so i could go to different webpages that did not have webclipping applications for them. ohh well mike ----- Original Message ----- From: "rain forest puppy" <rfp () wiretrip net> To: "Drexx Laggui" <drexx () pacific net sg> Cc: <nmap-hackers () insecure org> Sent: Monday, April 24, 2000 7:36 PM Subject: Re: nmap for PalmOS?
Has anybody ported nmap to PalmOS? Is it practical?Ok, I'm not a big palm buff, so... Is it possible to obtain a straight network connection with a Palm, not needing cradle and PC, or modem, in the process? At this point, I didn't know Palms where ethernet-capable. I know other devices (WinCE, etc) take PCMCIA cards, which make them network-capable, but those aren't Palms... - rfp -------------------------------------------------- For help using this (nmap-hackers) mailing list, send a blank email to nmap-hackers-help () insecure org .
