I think writing nselib libraries is very important. Maybe you can write one for NetBIOS and SMB like Brandon described [1].
Well while I'm adding more work without contributing code, here goes another idea: I'd really like to see SNMP library support. For static OIDs one can just replay the same SNMP GET byte pattern. For dynamic queries though the ASN.1 encoding (how you encode a OID in SNMP) is too complicated to easily implement in a simple script. SNMP MIB-II has a million useful things scripts could query; of which, the most popular would probably be the host's MAC address. There is a LuaSNMP project [1] to add SNMP functionality. I've tried to integrate this into Nmap but I haven't been able to solve some of the compile and link time dependencies. I'm sure with more work someone could figure it all out. Between Nmap's port scanning, Eddie's traceroute, and Diman's NSE Nmap really could become a true network _mapper_.
