home backup solution

I have an external disk that I store in a fire safe but never bother
getting out so it is 6 months out of date. Up to June I have access to
a server that I run a nightly rsync to to back all my work up but that
server goes on June 1 so I'm looking to do something after that. I
want to get the data off site somehow but just trying to decide how as
it needs to be in a way where it just happens without me thinking
about it.

For years, I would raid my drives in my main home machine but I found
for my needs it was a waste of usable space and more overkill than
needed. ?Now I just cron rsync to run and copy to another drive in the
machine and then every so often I rsync it over to an external drive.
This allows me to use the backup drive if I am in a pinch for space
and allows me to pick and chose what dirs I want to copy.

Even if my data is encrypted I don't like putting too much of my stuff
in the clouds, so I revert to just using lamer backup methods.

What are people using to backup their home networks at the moment?
I've probably got about about 5G to backup and was wondering about
tape. I don't fancy building a large RAID system or buying something
like a drobo as I know that I'll end up using it for normal storage
rather than just backups and that will defeat the point.

Any tips?
