If you want to became an advanced pentester, someone that can create ad hoc or creative solution ( in the offensive or defensive side ) you have to know at least C, ruby, python, and the assembler. Python in particular had gained popularity in these area, many security lib are been ported to python also, dsniff for example. A good refs is the book "violent python".
