Re: Wireless assessment app

Started working through different apps, but I am not seeing anything with
examples or screenshots in the 5ghz range. Has anyone looked into tools at
the 5ghz range?

No, I remember WiFiFoFum doing this on Windows Mobile back in the iPaq
days. There was no GPS…just one wifi radio. I always wondered how it
managed, since it was so accurate. Somebody should find that guy and shake
him down for answers.

perhaps it keeps GPS coords & compass readings of last highest signal and
"fakes" the radar map with that historical data.

Agreed. I don't believe the location of the points on the graph are
representative of direction compared to the phone. I believe it is based
on
signal strength only and those points just move closer to the center.
It's
been a while since I've used this though and don't currently have it
available to test.

That is exactly what I thought but my friend couldn't be convinced.
I'll just have to live with them being in the dark about radio.

It can't. The display only looks good and cannot actually provide
direction.

I don't believe this was answered. I believe you're thinking of
WiFiFoFum
and it can only be installed on jailbroken devices. Here is a

Ye that looks like it.

How can it do that from a single device?

Slightly off topic but something I'm curious about, there is an iPhone
app I saw that shows APs on a radar type screen to indicate what
direction

Anyone any idea how they would be doing it?

I agree w/Larry -- Check out WiFi Analyzer for Android.

Brian,

We talk about this quite a bit in SANS SEC617. I hate to say it,
but I
think you are correct on the iPhone side, mostly due to the fact that
the wireless drivers are "less than open". To my knowledge, monitor
mode
support does not exist on non-jailbroken iDevices (I'm not sure about
jailbroken ones).

My solution? Go Android. I picked up a Nexus 7 and use the
following
tools frequently:
