This is a MySQL configuration issue. It would appear that your MySQL setup is trying to use a UNIX domain socket to communicate, however it is unable find it in the specified file. As a consequence, a connection to the DB server cannot be made. Is there a mysql.sock file being created when you start the server? Since the mysqld is expecting it in 'var/lib/mysql', try creating a symbolic link in this directory to the real mysql.sock. Roman On Sat, 18 Aug 2001, Suchun Wu wrote:
Hi, I'm trying to use a new released version of snort, i.e. snort-1.8.1-RELEASE and mysql of 2.23.41. The compilation seems ok but I could not start the snort. When I run "snort -c snortrules", it gives me the following error message: database: mysql_error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) Your helps are very appreciated, Suchun
