dropped packets

Hi,

I'm running snort on FreeBSD 4.4-REL on a box with several interfaces (5), 
and it's load average is above 3.  Is there an easy way to determine how 
many packets are being dropped per interface with snort running as a 
daemon?  If I kill/restart snort will it generate a report to syslog 
(assuming syslog is the configured alert medium)?
