I've created a patch which implements one small part of this and have attached it to https://bugs.wireshark.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=8342
So far, I only changed the code relating to a single dissector that I submitted, but the work is easy and almost mechanical, so I can do additional code changes if this patch seems acceptable. We can nibble away at it over time and get it done.
