I agree with Richard. Wireshark does use multiple threads, in particular for file status, but the important bit (UI, decode and analysis) all runs on a single thread. Hi, we are evaluating a new trace server for analyzing 10GBit/s traffic and I would like to know if Wireshark supports multicore CPU's. If no, we don't need to order a multicore CPU for this server.
While WireShark runs on multi-core CPUs, it does not distribute the important work, AFAIK, among separate cores. In my experience, the things that improve Wireshark performance are: 1. Memory. 64GB or more. 2. Using SSDs or NVMe. -- Regards, Richard Sharpe (何以解憂?唯有杜康。--曹操)(传说杜康是酒的发明者) ___________________________________________________________________________ Sent via: Wireshark-dev mailing list <wireshark-dev () wireshark org> Archives: https://www.wireshark.org/lists/wireshark-dev Unsubscribe: https://www.wireshark.org/mailman/options/wireshark-dev mailto:wireshark-dev-request () wireshark org?subject=unsubscribe ______________________________________________________________________ This message contains confidential information and is intended only for the individual named.
