hi all, at the last ietf (56th meeting in san francisco) the Distributed/End-Point Firewall Control BOF (defcon) took place. this bof was motivated by the work in the distributed firewall area described in the subsequently listed documents. the bof announcement can be found at: http://www1.ietf.org/mail-archive/ietf-announce/Current/msg23182.html some of you might be interested in a few documents providing an introduction to the topic: Distributed End-Point Firewall Control (DEFCon) Applicability Scenarios http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-penno-defcon-appl-00.txt Distributed/End-Point Firewall Control (DEFCon) Requirements http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-sahita-defcon-reqs-00.txt Implementing a Distributed Firewall http://www.research.att.com/~smb/papers/ccs-df.pdf Some Problems with Perimeter Firewalls http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-keromytis-disfi-compare-00.txt Information about a mailing list can be found at: http://jis.mit.edu/pipermail/saag/2002q4/000681.html ciao hannes ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kendric" <Kendric () hotpop com <mailto:Kendric () hotpop com>> To: <security-basics () lists securityfocus com <mailto:security-basics () lists securityfocus com>> Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2003 4:12 PM Subject: Distributed Firewall
Hi, just wondering if any of you guys heard of this concept of distributed firewall? I have done some research on it and found it to be quite a wonderful concept into bringing the firewall platform to each client/server end with a central management policy. In other words, it is like having a personal firewall on each individual machine, but centrally managed by a remote management console. In this way, we will not have to put any trust even on the machines on the intranet.
