The SANS cert, via GIAC is going through an interesting change. I received an email from them today indicating that they are dropping the practical part of the exam. I always thought extra points for the exam and cert. However, I also find that GIAC certs are not a widely known as Security+ and CISSP. That was always baffling to me. My point is to look at the proposed changes to the GIAC certs. Hello Everybody, I just finished my master's degree in Information Security from Stevens Institute of Technology and I am looking to get my first security certification. I've read about the many security certifications out there, and I have decided to go with the Security+ certification from CompTIA. How does everybody feel about this certification? I would've rather tried to get the CISSP but you need experience for that, and that's something that I don't have right now. Is this a good first certification in the Information Security Field or
are there better ones?

Personally, I would go for the GSEC from GIAC. Visit www.sans.org to find out when training is. Unfortunately, the class and cert is about $3100. It isn't the easiest to get, but if you put in the time and effort, you get a cert that not everyone gets from an organization that is looked up to for security. -- Nathaniel Hall, GSEC Intrusion Detection and Firewall Technician Ozarks Technical Community College -- Office of Computer Networking halln () otc edu 417-447-7535 GPG Public Key ID: 0xAC187312
