It's called geo-tagging, and it's a real issue. There was a recent
case where a soldier in Afghanistan posted pictures he took from his
base camp and inadvertently gave away the coordinates, which was
classified. Twitter will do the same thing, give a location of where
you are tweeting from, but it can be turned off in both.
