Hey, there's been several Nigerian 419 links in a few
fortean stories:

"LA record producer killed by Nigerian 419 scam ring?"
 http://www.boingboing.net/2005/08/25/la_record_producer_k.html

(Note: he was eventually found after a resident spotted him
sitting naked in a backyard creek, washing his jeans. Whacked.)

"Nigerian scammers used U.S. airbase in Iraq?"
 http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27494

"Nigeria Jails Woman in $242M E-mail Fraud Case"
 http://fergdawg.blogspot.com/2005/07/nigeria-jails-woman-in-242m-e-mail.html

(Reuters removed the original article, but I have the first
three paragraphs of the article on my blog.)

That's just a couple of the more interesting ones I found
by searching my blog links. :-)

Wow. I never thought that _real_ Nigerians were behind those
419 schemes. Almost adds an air of legitimacy.

Are you serious? There are cases where victims have been taken to
Nigeria to meet "bank" people and other "officials".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Advance_fee_fraud

"I recall reading a year or so ago at one point the scam income was in
the top 3 re Nigerian GDP income figures"

I remember it being 4th for some reason...not sure where I saw it..and
if it was true. Don't get me wrong, alot of scams are controlled by
non-Nigerians but there is must much than an "air of legitimacy" in the
name sake.
