More likely to alter the 'signature' of the spam to fend off hashing/signature identification. This is morphing (pun intended) into malware, such as the recent dvdaccess trojan (http://isc.sans.org/diary.php?storyid=1872) that appears to 'customize' itself to the requesting IP.
