Um, was it the start of 1989? And that's about when I launched Virus Fax 
International.

 Do you know when John Make-A-Fee 
sold the first copy of Scan (then called ViruScan IIRC)?

I seem to remember that Sophos were selling their file checksummer for
£199 per copy at about the same time. And they launched their commercial
newsletter, Virus Bulletin at about that time too.
