At no point could any "snapshot" of social congnitive fucntion actually "prove" anything at all, anymore than a single line of code could explain a complex program or a single frame of a film convey the meaning behind the story.
Actually, one line of code *can* explain a complex program (or at least why said program is a steaming pile of fertilizer). There's a *lot* of fairly small code snippets from large projects over here: http://worsethanfailure.com/Series/CodeSOD.aspx and they all have a common theme - any project that includes code of this caliber is doomed... And the study's results *would* (as somebody else commented elsewhere) explain why Bush is so committed to the Iraq war, and why Kerry was perceived as a flip-flopper. One was willing to change his mind when new information became available, the other wasn't.
