Now whether it'll go to 600 volts or not, that's unknown -- and the
author of that particular how-to mentions the lack of measurement.
I haven't done more searching to see if anyone else has built something
similar and then measured the output.

There were some students in Germany, several years ago, that took a
disposable camera and made an RFID 'zapper'.  Basically, the thing
generated a 'massive' EMP that burned the RFID.
