I do not know, but it seems this train is over...
It was replaced, for example, by the ability of the http protocol to
support a few virtual hosts at the same IP address.

 HOST_NAME:SERVICE -> IP_ADDRESS:PORT

Now we have a lot of troubles due to this choose.

Of course if we could implement RFC2052 everywhere...

I wonder if _any_ popular end user software has quietly added forward
compatibility with SRV records?
