Friendly SOHO router

The companies I've been with have been Sonicwall dealers. SO let me
interject my .02:

1. VPN setup, especially for site to site, is a snap...WAY faster than
Pix/ASAs (I work for a Cisco shop now) or some of the other products
around. However the VPN client is not as nice or robust as Cisco's and
is sometimes a major pain to get going. However, I would correct one
thing...Without Enhanced OS, there are some limitations to what you can
do with a multiple subnet configuration.

2. The price point on the TZ 190 isn't bad; Just send him a quote on an
ASA for comparison!

3. The addons are well worth the money. Their Internet content
filtering is the fastest and best of any product I've seen. The tech
support sometimes isn't the best, even if you buy the most robust
support package they have. I've also never cared much for their AV
client either. One thing that Enhanced OS can do is function as a
wireless controller for their SonicPoint product, and does so quite
well. It also has an integrated Wireless IDS.

So now you're up to $ .04 :-)

Steven,

We're utilizing the Sonicwall devices for our SOHO customers. We're not
a dealer we're an application var and merely bundle the firewalls to
save everyone headaches. The users find the interface easy to use. Most
sonicwall models handle ipsec aes 256 3des & des vpn site to site and of
course Sonicwall sells a software based single user clients. (boo) All
models handle multiple lan subnets.

Unfortunately the fact remains that most of the SOHO decision makers out
there bristle at spending a lot of money on security. (insert 'you'll be
sorry comments here')

The down side on Sonicwall are the addons. You buy a device then in 90
days you need to purchase a warranty addon in order to download firmware
updates. And so on & so on. The subscription services they are offer
(av,ips, & filtering) are a bit privcy but are nice if one can talk a
customer into buying them.

$.02 deposited

Greg

I'm looking for a SOHO router for a friends small
business of about 20
nodes. They currently have a Cisco 1800 series but they
aren't a fan
of the CLI or SDM web interface so they're on the hunt
for something
else. The main issue is when there is a configuration
problem the
device is too complex for the average user to manipulate.
They were
previously using a Linksys product but found the phone
support to be a
little on the weak side. They would like to product to
support VPN and
two VLANS...

Anyone use a 3com, Nortel, Adtran, Sonicwall or WatchGuard
product and
have a positive experience with the devices functionality
and
usability?

Thanks,
Stephen
