Well you have read their contract very well and don't expect them to give you any more then expected. We have next day on site and when we called them for service it was two days before they arrived, although the service tech did call to let us know. After going around with them, the contract stated "next day or best chance". I can give you several detailed favorable experiences, but also several not so favorable experiences. Bottom line is they are getting better. I have seen a lot of changes in their support procedures in the last several years, and for the better. If I'm on the phone with support and I don't like what I hear I ask to be transferred to another support person or to the on-duty supervisor. But as far as them putting Linux on that IDS box, you can bet if Sourcefires name is on the box that they had a say in the decision. The thing I don't like is that the description is missing the internal specifications of the hardware, or I missed it. I'm not big on any flavor of unix being billed as 1337 or whatever... but my experience with dell is that they suck. And so does their hardware. And so does their support. In fact, if I can possibly avoid it, I will never do any business with them at all. These were all personal transactions, perhaps they are better when you buy corporate level equipment, but I doubt it. I don't have the time or patience to detail my various run ins with them, but I wouldn't bank on them having a clue about anything, except the art of delay. Just my bored 2 cents. RedHat or OpenBSD; lets see for official support, what would you choose? My choice would be RedHat, hands down over OpenBSD. Better OSwellthat's personal choice. Bottom line is that Dell definitely has a clue and has put there moneyinthe right platform for their particular purpose.
