Re: Local DoS : RedHat 6.0

Ok, just a few clarifications on my original email because I've been getting a lot of RTFM replies. 1) I am fully aware of the advantages of remote logins to fix such problems (I've done it many times before), however I did not have network access at the time... this was my home machine. Although I was on the internet at the time, I did not have my local IP handy. A hard reboot was my *only* option. 2) I am well aware of what "kill -9 -1" does. I'm not a *NIX newbie. ;-) My typing it was a "boo-boo." 3) My main concern was that a normal every day non-super user can do this if they have the ability to start an X session. I just wasn't sure if this was an OS specific problem or (as was pointed out) an XFree86 problem. IMHO, a regular user should not be able to crash an X session so easily. 4) A load of thanks to everyone who replied. :-) I'll just have to be a little more careful about what I type. All the best, ~jim /* * F8 90 B5 26 2E 4C FD 9E CC BC 59 F1 85 3F F7 CB BF 3B 5B 3C * "He who laughs last didn't get the joke." */
