-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 My apologies. In the original context of the quote, the author was referring to a computer criminal. I.e. one who uses surreptitious means (Technical or otherwise) to gain access or resources from a computing system. - -----Original Message----- From: Shaun Dewberry [mailto:shaund () verang co za] Sent: Tuesday, October 16, 2001 1:52 AM To: 'Hire, Ejay'; 'br0ken halo'; vuln-dev () securityfocus com Subject: RE: Civil Disobedience This depends on your definition of "hacking" and whether you obtained that perception from the media or from MIT. My definition of hacker does not involve destruction of property or harm to any person. A basic definition of 'hacker' is an inherently curious, computer literate person, having a special interest in computer security. What you seem to be talking about is a computer criminal. These are two entirely different entities. Please don't bundle hackers with criminals.
Don't you think "hacking is a victimless crime" is a bit soft? I agree it doesn't merit life inprisonment, but it still has an impact on its' victims.
